Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role is accountable for all aspects of purchasing, ranging from sourcing of new suppliers, contract negotiation, expediting and ensuring stock availability to allow production to be optimised. This role will work in partnership with the New Product Development Team to ensure the timely introduction of new product ranges.
You will need to be computer literate with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (in particular Excel) and POP systems. The role will involve some international and domestic travel.
1.Responsible for all direct and some indirect procurement, against a specified supplier portfolio, to support forecasted sales through Sage Inventory Advisor, ensuring cost targets are met and inventory levels managed within agreed levels
2.Buyer will be responsible for managing the following functions against specified supplier portfolio:
-Supply chain risk analysis and development of alternative supplier strategies
-Delivering targeted savings
-Improving aspects of supplier delivery performance (OTIF) with actions to be developed to rectify any shortfalls
-Improving quality performance again with action plans to be developed to rectify and resolve root causes
-Identification and assessment and development of highly competitive new sources, where required
3.Working closely with R&D & the Engineering team to co-ordinate and drive forward NPD, including early supplier involvement, cost estimation, value engineering, process optimisation, material selection
4.Responsible for co-ordinating the production and capacity planning of strategic suppliers, including cost effective and timely delivery of all free issued parts, in line with forecast demand and inventory levels
5.Effective contract development, negotiation , review and implementation
6.Working within the team to promote best Practice Purchasing Principles.
7.Responsible for achieving full availability of all required top level and component parts, enabling the sales and production targets to be met. This will include effective stock management, utilisation of system reports, low level stock, monthly ordering, back orders and historic / present data for sales and stock holdings.
8.Ensure the company uses the appropriate combination of discrete orders, blanket orders and scheduled orders to ensure maximum availability.
9.Responsible for the expediting of all purchase orders, ensuring all delivery dates are adhered to.
Skills And Experience
-Evidence of purchasing aesthetically pleasing products / components
-Proven track record of working within a new product development team
-Proven track record of purchasing services and supplies.
-Proven track record of business travel
-Proven track record of quality audit and inspection of supplies
-Experience of working to ISO standards
-Experience of managing and negotiating commercial contracts
-Evidence of influencing senior management and directors
-Experience of continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean or Six Sigma
-Practical working knowledge of design for manufacture, value engineering and product approval
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to demonstrate continuous learning
-Working knowledge of Microsoft office packages to intermediate level
-Knowledge of Incoterms and overseas procurement
