The Role of IT Manager

A well-established company based in York are looking for an IT Manager to take overall responsibility for the current IT department and provide IT support to circa 100 staff across the UK, EU, USA and China. You will be required to manage and maintain all IT aspects of the business as including hardware, software, data, security, reporting and the management of third-party suppliers. The successfully applicant will also be responsible for developing the on-going IT strategy.

Duties of the IT Manager

  • Manage a department of 3 people (Software Developer, 1st line IT Support, second line/Systems Admin)
  • Administration of company windows server’s networks and systems
  • Running Windows Server 2016 with 15 virtual servers
  • Identify and implement IT solutions that will improve the quality and accessibility of information throughout the business
  • Manage the monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all current IT systems, including servers, internet connectivity, and websites, telephones, software applications and peripherals.
  • Research and development of new technologies
  • Work with all departments to identify opportunities for improvement
  • IT business planning of the lifecycle of IT systems and software
  • Support the users and business with an out of hours infrastructure where necessary
  • Represent the IT department in quarterly management meetings
  • Provide and maintain the IT and communications infrastructure with minimal downtime to the users
  • Project manage IT related system and software implementations
  • Manage external suppliers – MS Azure/M365 partner, Telecoms provider

Skills and Experience of th

  • Strong network administration skills
  • Experience with Server 2016, Hyper-V, Clustering and Active Directory
  • Firewall and VPN experience
  • MS Azure & M365 experience
  • Be familiar with MySQL databases
  • Some Linux server knowledge would be an advantage
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Quick to understand new technologies and solutions
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to develop a team
  • It would be expected that the person will have experience working in a similar field
