Location: Ilminster, TA19

Assignment: Permanent contract

Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 08:30am - 16:30pm & Friday 08:30am - 16:00pm

Pay: £35,000 per annum

We are currently recruiting for a Process Development Engineer to work within our clients Engineering Management Team to develop manufacturing capabilities within the Precision Oprics and Systems Manufacturing Centre.

The successful candidate will be focused on developing new process capabilities in line with the technology roadmap for an efficient manufacturing system.

Duties as a Process Development Engineer:

  • Maintain a regular presence on the shop floor whilst observing manufacturing operations and performance
  • Identify, raise and manage development projects
  • Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, recommending suitable capital investments and improvements projects
  • Communicating purpose and progress of development activities
  • Working with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to produce newly developed processes
  • Ensure that ongoing quality problems are not perpetuated with new processes
  • Provide excellent communication with shop floor operatives, engineers and management
  • Provide mentoring to Team Leaders and Operators
  • Optimisation of the manufacturing process chain
  • Creating documentation and engineering reports to capture the results of development work
  • Management of development projects to meet deadlinea

About you:

  • Hold a degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or relevant field is desirable
  • Ideally 10+ years' experience of optical fabrication and assembly
  • Knowledge of the design process and optical tolerancing / error budgeting
  • Experience with problem solving techniques
  • Knowledge and experience of NPI techniques
  • Flexible approach to working to meet deadlines
  • Proven capability to learn and implement new skills and processes
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and basic CAD
