Job: Senior Freight Co-ordinator

Location: Exeter

Salary: £31,250

Hours: 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday

 

Summary:

The main purpose of the role is to assist in providing a comprehensive logistics service to the Group - this will involve all aspects of shipping, Import, Export and Domestic Freight.

Working in a fast-paced and challenging environment, juggling many shipments at the same time, this is a busy hands-on role requiring excellent organisational; IT and communication skills whilst also requiring a high degree of attention to detail.

The successful candidate will liaise with 3PL transport providers to manage both the physical logistics and generate the relevant import/export documentation to support movement, whilst fully understanding the procedures and legislation required to perform in this challenging role. A thorough and detailed understanding/background; coupled with previous experience of working in a similar role; together with demonstrable knowledge of current Customs Legislation is vital and pre-requisite for this position.

 

Accountabilities

Understand the processes and formalities essential for international import and export trading & shipping

Arrange quotations and booking confirmation across the spectrum of Import and Export and across all modes of transport

Provide supporting documentation for import, export and customs requirements

Handling shipments via air/sea/road freight

Ensure all shipments are in accordance with current country specific and HMRC legislation

Issue clearance instructions for both import and export shipments as required

Knowledge of Incoterms, commodity codes and licensing vital for this aspect of the role

Ensure postponed VAT and deferred duty payments are correct and in accordance with instructions

Reconcile DAN statements

Auditing of customs entries

Control LTSD and have a thorough understanding of trade agreements and origin requirements for both Ex-EFTA, Europe and emerging agreements

Arrange triangulated shipments both in Europe and Asia as required

Arrange Hazardous shipments in accordance with the regulations

Provide joint daily Supervision and guidance to Freight Co-ordinators and Administrators

Assist Group Freight Controller as required and assist with Customs Compliance programme and other legislative aspects of the department

Ensure all shipments are fully monitored and controlled - daily updates and reporting required

Ensure all import/export files are compliant with current HMRC regulations

Liaise with transport providers regarding any transportation issue

Supervise costs against set tariffs - sign off transport invoices

Liaise with all warehouse locations regarding planning and scheduling of deliveries/collections

Provide advice and guidance to internal teams re transport requirements, costs, Incoterms and documentation requirements

 

Experience, Attributes & Skills sought :

Previous experience in a similar import/export Senior role

A hands on approach - good problem-solving skills

Good IT skills and highly organised

Have the ability to prioritise own workload and those of others in order to control volumes and meet tight deadlines

A good working knowledge of customs and tariff codes

Strong understanding of the wider import and export process

Proficient with all current import / export legislation and paperwork essentials - Knowledge and experience of all shipping documentation and agreements for both Import/export. Incoterms, HMRC Regulations, Origin - both Trade agreements and origin certification, preference documents, UKGT, VAT Proof of export, export/import Licensing and quotas, payment terms and options
