Role Overview

To manage all aspects of the technical management activities at all the company production and warehousing sites.

A key requirement is that the QMS and food safety culture are fully implemented and managed to ensure best practice and "BRC grade A audit ready" at all times.

Ensuring customer expectations are met, even exceeded, at all times.

Ensuring Technical is integrated an embedded across all Operational functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promoting the company food safety culture and adherence to consistent quality throughout the organisation.
  • Ensuring the training and competency of direct reports is sufficient and up to date to carry out their duties effectively.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with customers engendering trust through close liaison on NPD and Quality to meet and exceed their expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement for technical and provide support to other CI initiatives across all functions.
  • Act as Deputy HACCP team leader
  • Manage a comprehensive (technical) staff development program ensuring in-house skills are up to date, relevant and effective.
  • Advise Directors and Senior Managers on legislation and new technical requirements and ensuring compliance to such as maybe relevant to the business.
  • Project management - technical and cross functional.
  • Conducting site tours with customers, third party auditors, authoritative bodies and other visitors.
  • Carry out internal audits of the QMS (as agreed with the Technical Compliance Manager) and other management systems i.e., environmental and health & safety.
  • Provide technical training
  • Manage the technical department budget (where applicable).
  • Deputise for Technical Managers when applicable; to include BRC and third-party audits (in absence of Technical Compliance Manager)

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have At least 5 years technical management experience in food & drink manufacture.
  • Experience of change management and embedding a meaningful 'food safety culture'.
  • Thorough knowledge of quality management systems
  • Experience of transitioning BRC to grade AA*
  • HACCP level 3, or above, qualified
  • Internal, or lead auditor, qualified
  • Experience of training others on individual or small group basis
  • Strategic thinker - must be able to visualise the long term aims of the company quality systems and business direction.
  • Ability to work independently and cross functionally
  • Open communicator willing to share and transfer knowledge to the benefit of all
  • Disciplined and diligent in maintaining reports, responses and paperwork
  • Urgent and responsive - to customer and business needs
  • Results orientated - enthusiastic, energetic and committed
  • Must be prepared to work unsociable hours where necessary to meet deadlines
