Permanent Senior Test Engineer

Location: Torquay

Salary: c£40,000

Our client is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to head up their test engineering capability within the product engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of test solutions for the characterisation of optical components and systems, these test methods will also require transfer to manufacturing using the NPI gate process. The Test Engineer will provide technical knowledge for both the hardware and software aspects of test for optoelectronic, fibre optic, RF components, and electronic assemblies. This is a senior role in the team and the candidate will be required to mentor and performance manage a small team of test engineers. There will also be a requirement to support previously released product with fault finding, test, software, CI activities and product qualification.

Key Responsibilities:

      Design and develop test methods, processes, and hardware for optoelectronic packages, modules and subassemblies, automating these tests where possible.

Identify, design, develop and procure interfaces and specialised equipment required for the testing of optoelectronic packages and subassemblies.

Work alongside Development Engineers, Customers and Product Engineers to design and produce solutions to match the high demands of our customers.

Take a lead technical role in the Product Engineering team to enable projects to be completed in a timely manner against product release schedules linked to NPI gates.

Specify the necessary materials, circuit boards, fixtures, tools, equipment and outside services to create test solutions for the company's products.

Assemble, integrate and commission test hardware, software, fixtures and equipment.

Advice and support manufacturing engineering with the implementation and auditing of gauge R&R and SPC procedures to ensure test reliability and consistency.

Develop procedures and train personnel against these.

Facilitate and support the infeed from the development team to drive corporate strategy of moving up the value chain and delivering new components to the market.

Support the commercial demands of the business and in some instances take the lead with customer communication.

Meet deadlines and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.

Experience, attributes & skills sought:

      Bachelor's Degree in a relevant subject such as software engineering, physics, mathematics, electronics or equivalent experience.

5+ years' experience in a test engineering role.

Experience in optics/photonics preferable.

Experience in technical design, process development and automatic test solutions.

Proven internal presentation skills.

Experience in a manufacturing and product development environment essential.

Ideally some experience of project managing and performance managing of staff.
