Hawk 3 Talent Solutions are operating as an employment agency on behalf of its client for a Transport Manager.

Location: Swindon

Salary: £34-42K + £5 car allowance

Hours: 45 hours per week Monday to Friday (Days) 7am - 5pm, flexibility required to work different hours when required.

Summary:

To be directly responsible for control of transport staff, vehicles and drivers whilst executing sustainable haulage activity to deliver optimum operational performance and high levels of safety and customer satisfaction.

Responsible for managing / routing LGVs from Swindon (7), Cardiff (3), Sharpness (3), Chard (2), Plymouth (2)

Key Responsibilities:

General

  • Plan, organise and manage the work of self and any support staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with policies and the legal requirements
  • Ensuring that vehicles, equipment and operations do not have an unduly adverse impact on the environment in which they operate
  • Use the company's systems effectively and strive to maintain accurate data and records
  • Produce and submit a timely monthly report outlining transport performance and KPIs
  • Conduct investigations in cooperation with HR and SHE coordinators to determine causes of incidents and to improve safety procedures
  • Raise records of customer feedback in line with procedures and follow up as appropriate.

Routing

  • Overseeing and promoting excellent standards of customer service
  • Ensure that optimal levels of vehicle and container utilisation are achieved
  • Manage activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking vehicles
  • Overseeing and promoting cost / fuel efficient vehicle routing
  • Monitoring the location, use and condition of containers (bins, skips and stillages)
  • Ensure the company complies with the requirements of ADR, waste and other Regulations

Transport Staff & Drivers

  • Recruit and strive to retain the best available drivers whilst following the company's recruitment procedures
  • Oversee the management of the drivers and their induction and ongoing training,
  • Ensure compliance with driver licence checks, driver hours rule and working time rules
  • In line with objectives, arrange employee training sessions on subjects as H&S, driver CPC
  • Promote safe working activities by conducting safety audits, attending safety meetings
  • Actively encourage feedback from the staff / drivers and support creativity and new ideas
  • Hold weekly briefings with drivers and staff

Vehicles

  • Manage the use of fuel and other transport related costs in line with company systems and procedures
  • Ensure vehicles, trailers and equipment are maintained and repaired in line with good practice and O-licence requirement
  • Analyse expenditure, haulage recovery and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies and budgets for reducing costs
  • Work with fleet engineer(s) to ensure cost effective servicing and repairs
  • Ensure all maintenance of transport records required to demonstrate compliance with legal requirements

Experience, attributes & skills sought:

  • Previous transport management experience is essential
  • Previously managed a team of transport staff and vehicles across one or more sites
  • Hold a standard national or international CPC (certification of professional competence)
  • Proven track record of ensuring cost effective purchasing and monitoring of spend
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Adhere to Health Safety and Environmental policies
  • NEBOSH certificate or other relevant safety training
  • Valid LGV Class C or C+E licence would be considered beneficial

Special Requirements:

Strong geographic knowledge of operating area

Flexible to travel widely and work extended hours as necessary to perform the role
