Job Title: First Line Manager (FLM)

Job Type: Permanent, Salaried

Location: Castle Bromwich

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £31,250

Role Purpose

To provide First Line Leadership in the running of a safe and efficient dedicated operational area, working within clear guidelines to help achieve the operational standards for your area of responsibility. To actively drive the engagement, performance, and recognition of your direct reports.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a clear understanding of customer quality standards, ensuring both customer and company expectations are met.
  • Have a clear understanding of Roles & Responsibilities and Operational Objectives & KPIs applicable to your role and team.
  • Communicate productivity and direct hours targets to your team, ensuring they have a clear understanding of what is expected from them.
  • Use the Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) program daily to ensure appropriate behaviours and processes are followed as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the site HSE policy including the HS Management System. Contribute to the site health, safety, and environmental meetings, ensuring that you action outputs and provide feedback as required
  • Ensure all colleagues in your area of responsibility have received appropriate induction, including any necessary job/task specific or specialist training (e.g. MHE and QPS/WES).
  • Investigate all near misses, incidents, and accidents with emphasis on preventing any re-occurrences. Monitor the department's accident performance, sharing best practices.
  • Driving quality safety monitoring processes, standards, and compliance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Company Human Resources processes, ensuring they are conducted correctly, and seeking support from management where appropriate.
  • Track dispersion of own team, understand any deviations, and discuss with employees during informal performance reviews - 1-to-1s
  • Track team set up time, Shift start / end of previous day, and appropriate breaks for meals.
  • Track attendance of your employees at individual level and indicate deviations to your Line Manager to enable updates of resource planning (if needed)
  • Track overtime of your employees at individual level and understand deviations.
  • Track the % of errors and damage to goods at individual level and address these issues during performance reviews with employees.
  • The FLM will report directly to the Operations Manager.
  • They will also liaise with FLMs, with the customer and any third-party support needed to support business requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and legislation
  • Experience of leading and supporting teams
  • A Level or equivalent qualification
  • People management experience
  • Familiarity with an automotive manufacturing environment
  • History of effectively managing customer queries and complaints
  • Leadership skills with the ability to effectively delegate tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise tasks as required, and work to tight deadlines.
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven aptitude for problem solving.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to build relationships with people at all levels of an organisation.
  • Organised and capable of working off own initiative.
  • Results-driven
  • Ability to motivate teams and individuals to achieve the best results.
  • Analytical
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and development.

  • History of following through on commitments, completing tasks from start to finish.

Other Information

As a salaried position, there may be the need to undertake additional work outside of standard working hours, depending on the immediate business needs. Some flexibility around working hours is therefore required.
