SERVICE ENGINEER / BRISTOL - PERMANENT ROLE

Location: Bradley Stoke, Bristol

Assignment: Permanent contract

Hours: 4 on, 4 off nights 19:00pm - 07:00am

Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Hawk 3 Talent Solutions, acting as an employment business, are currently recruiting for 2 Service Engineers on permanent contracts, one on day shifts and one on night shifts based in Bradley Stoke.

The successful candidates will be responsible for identifying and fixing faults on mailing machines and associated equipment. To assist production in gaining best running speeds whilst reducing remake waste to continually improve efficiencies through production.

Duties as a Service Engineer:

  • Report all Health and Safety matters immediately to Manager and follow SSOW
  • To comply with the Information Security Management Systems and its associated policies
  • Effect repairs to mailing machines and associated equipment where necessary, such as mechanical fault repairs
  • Maintain, support and service any piece of production associated equipment, Cutters and Strapping machines
  • Liaise with Production Management Teams on machine performance problems and improvements
  • Provide ideas and feedback to the Production Management teams on machine problems
  • Maintain proper administration of parts usage
  • Communicate effectively problems and solutions either written or verbally
  • Communicate to relevant stakeholders information that can assist the site to have a greater efficiency
  • Be a strong continuous improvement leader, look for opportunities, report on successes and failures
  • Mentor machine operators in order to enhance their operating skills
  • Be pro-active at all times to help maximize productivity
  • Highlight and bring to Managers attention any exposure to risk for the department or business
  • Ensure a clear and precise handover is given to the oncoming team members
  • To keep the work area clean and tidy at all times

About you:

  • Experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Good diagnostic skills
  • Ability to follow electrical diagrams
  • Can work as part of a team
  • Ability to do board level repairs preferred but not essential
  • Practical maintenance engineering background with electrical emphasis preferred

- Market Research - review the raw material supplier market to identify new materials that will enhance Permali's thermoplastic product portfolio.

- Administration - creating and maintaining a directory of product files with technical data sheets, test results, approvals management, regulatory compliance statements & health & safety guidance.

- Process Optimisation - work with Process Engineering to ensure products are being produced by the most efficient / cost effective method.

  • Store all commodities removed from vehicles in the correct manner including;

  • Wheels stacked on pallets and shrink wrapped once a full pallet completed
  • Cats with barcode stickers added and placed in secure storage
  • Weigh out batteries, wheels and Cats on a regular basis as sales are despatched
  • Achieve daily targets on number of vehicles per day to be depolluted
  • Carry out accurate valuations of catalytic converters with training to be provided
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards so that the ELV building and surrounding areas are kept clean and tidy
  • Play an active part in depot safety performance through being a safety leader on site
  • Identify, report and deal with hazards. Challenge unsafe behaviours and ensure compliance with all EMR SOP's

Experience, attributes & skills sought:

  • Previous experience of a vehicle depollution/metal recycling activities is preferable but not essential
  • FLT experience preferable
  • Ability to use a hand held portable tablet for recording information
  • Previous car mechanic experience beneficial

Summary:

Our client is UK specialist in composites and mouldings based in Gloucester are currently recruiting for a Manual Turner to join them. It is an exciting time to join a fast-growing company where opportunities have arisen for a right candidate. Skilled conventional turner required to work on a variety of production machinery. While the role is primarily to set and run centre lathes, experience on turret and bed mills is also highly desirable. The production operative will work safely on a number of machines or processes and will be expected to meet set production and quality targets on a daily basis.

Required Skills:

Conventional turner should be a formally qualified apprentice with ideally 3-5 years of experience of working in a production environment. If not apprentice qualified, then they should be time served, preferably with about 5-7 years of experience of working on centre lathes in a production environment.

- Knowledge of machining composite materials (desirable). Turners should be confident in turning parts ranging from 5mm in diameter up to 1800mm in diameter and possibly even bigger in future. Part lengths will range from around 2mm up 3000mm.

- Machinists must be confident in their abilities to calculate angles, radii etc to meet customer drawing features. Likewise, the ability to design and where necessary make tooling to aid in the machining of specific features will be highly advantageous.

- Majority of items to be machined will be washers, flanged bushes, plain bushes, grooved bearings and split bearings. Experience of eccentric turning and trepanning is also required.

- The machines to be used range from small lathes such as a Holroyd groover and Colchester student lathe to mid-range lathes such as Broadbent Stanley 3m long bed lathe and Cochester Mastiff lathe. Various vertical borers will also be used so experience on those will be beneficial.

- Operators self-inspect their work with operation First Off's having a secondary inspection performed by a fellow operator before being signed off. As such, it is expected that skilled operators will be confident in the use of standard hand-held inspection equipment with knowledge of CMM and Shadowgraph use considered an advantage.

- Experience of working in a target driven production environment

- Furthermore, as skilled machinists it is expected that they will be able to read and interpret engineering drawings with a good understanding of the related G,D & T symbols and how they apply to the part.

Responsibilities

- Ensure any activities you carry out are done with Health and Safety criteria at the forefront - i.e ensure Safe Working Procedures, Risk Assessments and Lock out/Tag Out procedures are read and understood before operating any equipment on site.

- Raise any performance or H&S issues immediately with the shift leader or supervisor.

- Meet production and quality criteria on a daily basis.

- Ensure documentation is completed fully and accurately when performing any duties on the shop floor.

- Carry out quality checks on products and record the information accurately.

- Make suggestions on how to improve the processes in relation to production quality or manufacturing time.

- Maintain a high level of housekeeping standards in any area you operate

- Assist in training and mentoring new operatives and apprentices in that cell

- To carry out additional reasonable duties as required by business needs.

Required Skills:

- Ability to setup and machine a range of features on parts such as tapers, slots, radiused grooves to name a few. Be able to consider methods to setup and clamp parts to achieve desired features.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe leadership of production operations. Ensuring the safe operation of the manufacturing locations to meet the objectives identified by the business strategy to achieve operational excellent and aligned profitability growth.

Duties as a Production Manager:

  • Ensure that all Health and Safety and Environmental guidelines are followed in accordance with the EHS organizational arrangements roles and responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the value stream performance and budgets in line with the location and division goals and objectives to achieve safety and financial targets, customer requirements and other group site KPI's
  • Create and sustain a high performance team culture across the operations organization

  • Accountable for the site tracking center and will ensure that all value stream and Kaizen tracking center and team improvement boards are maintained and used to drive continuous improvement
  • Promote and utilize business tools and best practices with each value stream

  • Ensure all value stream team members are trained and work in accordance / compliance with Standard Work, risk assessments and quality system documented procedures
  • Support business growth through active participation and support of the new product introduction process and preparation of the manufacturing operation for launch and continuing production
  • Provide manufacturing input to the SIOP process
  • Support and lead elite customer strategic initiatives
  • Maintain profit improvement plan and site saving road maps
  • Develop current and future value stream maps along with 90 day plans to achieve targeted improvements in the manufacturing value streams
  • Responsible for materials management team ensuring stock control, inventory, supplier and in-house forecasting in partnership with strategic sourcing
