Acorn is looking to recruit a Graduate Site Chemist for our client, a supplier of specialist waste treatment, disposal and recycling services based in South Wales.

Our client offers a complete training and progression plan for the successful candidate.

The role:

  • Analysis of water samples using a variety of inorganic chemistry techniques including ion chromatography, atomic absorbance spectroscopy and wet chemistry.
  • Modelling blends in the lab using a combination of acidic and basic substances to identify optimum pH for the elimination of solids.
  • Testing and analysing samples sent to us from various other companies and determining whether they are suitable to be treated within our process - based on their physical properties.
  • Aiding operators in the day-to-day processing of chemicals.
  • Offloading vehicles and storing both hazardous and non-hazardous substances in appropriate places ready for processing.
  • Providing support to the wider business on matters including the analysis of samples and reporting the results and assist in reviewing and improving the processes carried out by the company.
  • Understanding and adhering to laboratory quality systems, and understanding the importance of effective and accurate analysis of water quality for the protection of public health.
  • Constantly maintaining the highest levels of health and safety, whilst maximising efficiency and productivity throughout the site.
  • Ensuring that all records required by statutory regulations and company policy are updated and maintained.

General Accountabilities

  • Assisting the Site Manager and Process Manager
  • The safe management of associated procedures relating to the efficient reception, inspection and routing of waste materials on site
  • Implementation and development of process modelling and control
  • Provision of technical support to the operation including the running and development of existing and new processes
  • Compliance with the company's EPR Permit and other regulatory consents
  • Compliance with the company's operating procedure
  • Compliance with the company's Health and Safety policy, site safety rules and environmental policy of all personnel
  • Provision of supervision and training with regard to company procedures and work instructions
  • Maintenance and development of paperwork and operational systems
  • Liaising with other company departments
  • Compliance with all relevant environmental and health and safety procedures
  • Development and maintenance of housekeeping procedures to ensure a clean and tidy site that fully meets compliance standards

Working hours:

Week one 6am-3pm

Week two 9am - 6pm

Requirements:

Must hold a Degree in Chemistry or relative field.

Your time initially will be spent learning the basics e.g. studying our products, liaising with our UK and foreign customers on the phone and providing all aspects of administration within the office including sales order processing, answering telephone enquiries from customers and suppliers, providing quotes, taking, placing, and organising the despatch of orders including packing and liaising with the technical workshop. You will also provide be involved in maintaining databases and collating data for sales and marketing reports.

Once competent in the above duties, you will take on responsibility under the guidance of sales management for the day-to-day account management of our some of our UK and foreign customer base, as well as working on telemarketing campaigns to promote our products within our niche market. While this is not a sales role, you should be highly competent on the phone and have proven experience in a sales or telemarketing role.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree educated
  • At least two year's relevant experience in account management/ telemarketing or telesales role
  • Excellent telephone and communication skills
  • Excellent MS Office Skills.
  • Own transport is essential

Role Purpose

The Laboratory Technician role is a generalist Laboratory role, conducting day to day testing and monitoring of the chemical production environment as per the testing schedules. Working with the team, the Laboratory Technician will perform the day to day testing and monitoring of samples; escalating issues and concerns as per the escalation process.

Following the agreed testing guidelines as set out within departmental policy, procedures and operational practices, the laboratory technician is responsible to monitor and communicate results from testing in order that technical issues can be prevented and that the environment can be closely monitored to address issues in a timely manner.

This role is vital to support production quality and plating performance for the volume of work as per requirements.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

      Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual testing as per the laboratory testing schedule (as per business requirements).

Communicate test fails and escalate issues as per the escalation process.

Make additions to process solutions in a safe manner as per H&S instructions and procedures

Work proactively to support production and inspection making recommendations and suggestions to address test fails in order to close technical issues in a timely manner.

Supporting quality and production during internal and external audits.

To ensure 5S principles are followed; maintaining an environment that supports efficient working and a methodical approach.

To look after laboratory equipment maintaining, calibrating, cleaning and testing sterility.

To order and maintain stock and resources.

To perform other duties as may be assigned by the line manager or as per the requirements of the business.
