The opportunity,

About the role

As an Electrician / Wireman, you will install and connect a wide range of cables, accessories and substation switchgear / plant associated with distribution network. This could include the installation and termination of Multicore Cables, installing protection panels, wall boxes, busbars, structures and plant as well as small power and lighting.

Although we'll develop your skills and build on your experience, you'll certainly need motivation, commitment and flexibility, alongside appropriate permission to drive in the UK and willingness to travel between sites. City and Guilds Level 2/3 in electrical installation is essential and NVQ level 3 is desirable. Once fully competent, you'll then mentor less experienced colleagues, and monitor progress of contractors.

Safety

You will be expected to follow established work safety practices, working to the distribution safety rules, while controlling environmental impacts and complying with legislative responsibilities. Identifying and eliminating hazards and potentially dangerous situations will be everyday tasks along with working to Method statement, Risk Assessments and carrying out point of work risk assessments (POWRA).

Your accountabilities

  • The use of resources at the worksite is cost effective and efficient;
  • Cables, cable accessories and auxiliary equipment associated with cable systems are installed in accordance with quality assurance; engineering design, time constraints, statutory requirements and relevant standards;
  • Standard tools, equipment is maintained to ensure their safety and reliability;
  • Work is performed in accordance with the relevant standard work practices; Workplace Health & Safety and environmental standards.
  • Successfully pass audits on works undertaken.

Other duties may include:

  • Carrying out safety audits, risk assessments and hazard management to ensure worksite safety in accordance with Workplace Health & Safety requirements;
  • Installing package substations / switchgear and GRP Housings.
  • Installing substation earth systems.
  • Excavation works. Use of cable avoidance equipment (CAT)
  • Testing installations and recording results.
  • Mark up drawings showing joint positions, wiring design changes etc.
  • Completing on site risk assessments.
  • Providing direction to the work team by setting high standards of work quality and coaching or training the team members to achieve these standards;
  • Actively participating within a field environment to complete projects in the most efficient and effective manner; and providing input to project staging to achieve agreed timeframes;
  • Assuming responsibility for the security and wellbeing of tools, plant and vehicles at the worksite.

This position will be based initially at our clients Sowton Industrial Estate site but have exciting plans to move to a state-of-the-art purpose built offices and manufacturing facility at Skypark, near Exeter Airport in the spring of 2023.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Group's IT networks and communications are well s=designed, secure, optimal and functional consistently across all internal and external operations.

Duties as an IT Network Engineer:

      Design and deploy the companies network services in line with Group design and security policies

Monitor and administer the installation and integration of corporate network communications including routers, switches, firewalls, DMZ, services, telephony and LAN / WAN communication services

Manage the IP space across the organization ensuring VLAN's, IP subnet, DNS, DHCP, VPNs and VoIP traffic is well designed, secure and optimized

Ensure best practices are used for protecting network security

Plan lifecycle renewals, hotswap procedures and emergency hardware failure protocols.

Provide regular service status updates to line management and agree and monitor service availability targets

Ensure the active/active WAN bandwidth and connectivity services are sufficient, balanced and perform efficiently. Plan and test failover of critical operational services.

Research latest networking developments and recommend any actions that will improve network performance and security.

Work closely with NIBE SOC teams and internal security engineers to ensure all preventative security measures are implemented.

Ensure all network hardware assets are identifiable and updated in the asset management system

Provide technical support to the maintenance of the hardware infrastructure systems and services

Ensure data backup design and integrity processes and practices are in place and verifiable

Generate and maintain knowledgebase technical documentation, including network schematics, of the all relevant systems.

Train end users to make appropriate and safe use of the IT infrastructure and ensure technical and help documentation is created and maintained.

Assist other members of the IT Department with project objectives where required and ensure a clear and co-operative communication channel exists.

Source and manage external suppliers where appropriate to ensure a stable, trusted and cost-effective working relationship.

About you:

      Computer related degree or relevant professional certification and accreditation is preferred

At least 5 years' experience in a technical IT role maintain secure networks in a MS Windows environment

Expert knowledge of and experience in LAN / WAN / VLAN communications, VPN configuration and enterprise wireless networking

CCNA / CCNP accreditation is mandatory

Firewall configuration, management and monitoring experience is essential

Cat6 and fibre communication protocol skills are essential

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will be responsible for delivering contestable connections on time and within budget. You will be responsible for liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders to meet the project programme and the client's specifications. The Candidate:

To successfully carry out this role you will need to be multi-skilled preferably with an Electrical bias. Electrically you will be able to fault find on single and three-phase systems, servo motors and AC motors, sensors, and various control systems. There will be an element of electrical installation as required, typically lighting and small power. Knowledge of plc electronics desired.

Mechanically you will be able to work on drive train systems, rollers, gearboxes, shafts, pneumatics, and some hydraulics. There is a requirement to be able to strip machine assemblies to component level and rebuild. You will also need to have demonstrated experience in maintenance engineering and show the ability to work off your own initiative.

Education to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is preferred, but not essential as we would consider "time served" as experience.

You will be multi-skilled and have strong communication skills and excellent organisational skills.
