Hawk 3 Recruitment are working with a specialist manufacturer based on the outskirts of Cardiff to recruit a Design Engineer to join their company on a permanent basis. Excellent opportunity for progression for the right candidate.
The Role:
As a design engineer, you will be responsible for the design and programming of the entire product range that we currently offer. Working to the job specification you will design, create drawings, and use Radan to program the door sets to the customer’s specification.
Ensure drawings and manufacturing programs are delivered on time in full, product quality exceeds customers’ expectations and costs are controlled within budget
Suggest ideas for the continuous improvement of Driveworks, Solidworks, and Radan systems and the associated business processes to improve productivity and eliminate waste.
Participate in the new product introduction process as requested.
Comply with the company’s policies and procedures, particularly in respect of quality, health & safety, housekeeping, environment, and human resources.

Reporting: To the Design Manager
- Use Driveworks to input the job specification
- Use Solidworks to review the design model and make design changes to ensure that the model matches the job specification (ie. non-standard furniture) if required.
- Use Solidworks to create manufacturing drawings and DXFs for Radan.
- Provide assembly drawings, BOMs, folding details, etc for door sets with a “non-standard” element as requested.
- Communicate non-standard requirements for manufacturing to the production controller and team leaders, including drawings as appropriate, and amend job descriptions in the Epicor manufacturing system where appropriate to aid communication to the assembly team.
- Provide “as built” drawings as requested by the sales team.
- Use Radan programming software to create programs for the turret punch and the water jet machines.
- Support the sales team in the preparation of quotations for customer requirements that are outside the scope of the standard offer.
- Comply with current drawing office standards for how models are drafted and documented, including naming conventions to minimise the risk of corruption of the Driveworks / Solidworks master models.
- Assist in the resolution of manufacturing problems arising from the design of a particular door.
- Investigate the causes of non-conformances and customer complaints. Identify and implement actions that will prevent the recurrence.
- Ensure that the workplace is maintained in a safe and tidy condition.
- Ensure that manufacturing drawings and programs are issued and controlled according to the requirements of ISO9001.
- Use PDM/Vault files to facilitate designs.
- Accurately log working time using Epicor Workbench.
Key Skills:
Candidate Spec – Essential:
- Mature, credible and comfortable when dealing with senior team members within the business

Candidate Spec – Desirable:

Purpose of the role

QUALIFICATONS:
The successful candidate should preferably have previous experience of working within a similar role gained within the manufacturing industry. Candidates must be able to demonstrate consistent decision making, project management and problem solving skills. You will be communicating at all levels, so ability to work using your own initiative as well as part of a team is essential.
The successful candidate must be computer literate and have an understanding of computer systemsShould possess a third level qualification, preferably to Degree level
Have strong knowledge of Pharma / Life Sciences customer quality and delivery requirements
Technical knowledge of Prepress, Print and Finishing would be an advantage
