Key responsibilities

  • Overseeing the day-to-day design operations for ICP & EV project delivery, covering all key disciplines (civils, HV, LV, temporary works etc)

The role will support the team create net zero pathways for customers by developing technical decarbonisation solutions for identified opportunities, through undertaking of detailed surveys, options appraisals and feasibility studies. The role will work as part of the pool of resource in the Consulting team, working across all type of clients in all sectors and covering all technologies.

What will you do day to day?

You will be responsible for the development and delivery of energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects within the commercial / industrial / retail estate/ healthcare/ education/ local government and central government environments; helping our customers to meet their decarbonisation commitments through the execution of net zero strategies, by focusing on the identification of initiatives to reduce and optimise energy consumption, remove fossil fuels from their operations and establish phasing to achieve this.

You will be working with the end goal to deliver projects to customers through a variety of mechanisms, to agreed budgets and timescales, and which may be measured both in terms of financial and energy benefits.

As part of the role, you can be expected to:

  • Carry out desk top analysis to pre-select the most suitable sites to survey and target improvement strategies.
  • Be capable of carrying out in-depth on-site energy surveys and produce supporting calculations, reports and proposals (manage others to execute the process - unsupervised detailed assessments).
  • Technical depth to develop projects from survey report recommendations into viable solutions at concept design stage.

  • Preparing relevant, detailed work instructions for all elements of installation works, and ensuring that teams (whether internal or external) are fully briefed on expectations and timescales.
  • Procuring and budgeting for the materials and equipment required to deliver the project installation
  • Carrying out audits as required on both site activities and third party suppliers - and ensure any non-conformances are raised, recorded, and mitigated
  • Ensuring all works in the Public Highway are carried out in liaison with the local authority, and comply with NRSWA and HAUC Specifications
  • Liaising with other staff and clients to ensure that all targets and key milestones are met - and ensure any deviations are raised and addressed with all parties
  • Ensuring all works are carried out to DNO and IDNO specifications, to ensure audits are successfully passed and final connections take place
  • Ensuring all activities undertaken by yourself, and the installation teams meet the correct company procedures, policies, and documentation
  • Upselling on existing sites - identifying what additional works could we undertake for a client/developer and helping to secure these opportunities.

Job Holder Specification

Senior Project Managers must have at least 12 month's internal project management experience within electrical infrastructure, and be able to demonstrate the successful operational and commercial delivery of at least 10 projects (ICP or EV).

Essential Education / Certification

  • HNC in electrical related discipline (or equivalent)
  • SSSTS or SMSTS Qualification (or equivalent)
  • CSCS Qualification (or equivalent)
  • Manual Handling certificate
  • Emergency First Aid at Work certificate
  • IOSH Certificate in managing Health and Safety (or equivalent)
  • ECS Qualification (or equivalent)
  • Driver's Licence

Desirable Education / Certification

  • Certificate of competency for DNO's, Electrician or Electrical Fitter
  • DNO Authorisations for access
  • DNO Authorisations for Switching
  • NRSWA Supervisor's qualification
  • SAP Qualified

My client is a very successful national HVAC/Mechanical Contractor, working within the Building Services sector with offices based in South Wales, West Midlands and London. With a modern and flexible working attitude ensuring an excellent work life balance. A great opportunity has arisen to recruit a Design Engineer/Estimator within their Wolverhampton based office to join the design team. This role is both exciting and rewarding providing a lifelong career within the industry. Training will be provided as necessary to the right applicant. Dependant on experience, a part time / day release college course will also be provided to obtain an industry recognised qualification to the successful, enthusiastic candidate.

The applicant’s role will consist of:

  • Working as part of the design team to assist in the preparation of estimates and quotations for clients with projects ranging from £1k to £2million in all sectors inc. commercial, industrial and domestic.
  • Suitably size and select various types of VRF and heat pump air conditioning systems as well as ventilation and plumbing services as required for ‘design & build’ enquiries.
  • Carry out building heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Carry out site surveys as and when required.
  • Produce design sketches to allow CAD layouts to be prepared by the CAD team.
  • Approach various suppliers for costs to all quotations to be prepared.
  • Ensure the correct level and accuracy of technical content on all projects.
  • Ensure that there is a detailed ‘handover’ of each scheme to the delivery team once order is secured.
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects at contract stage if required.

The applicant ideally will possess:

  • Building Services/Construction Industry experience
  • Knowledge of ductwork and pipework layouts
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling loads
  • Self-motivation and capacity to work to deadlines and timescales
  • Organised approach and positive attitude including the ability to use own initiative
  • Excellent verbal, written, maths and IT skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Other attributes:

  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD would be advantageous.
  • Experience in computer aided building design software such as IES, Hevacomp, Cymap etc. would be advantageous.
