Head of Supply Chain – Bristol – Permanent £85,000 + Bonus + benefits
Reporting to the Production Operations Director your responsibilities will include:
• Contribution to development of and implementation of Supply Chain Strategy
• Functional management of supply chain team
• Development of policies and refinement of processes for:
o Supplier assessment and approvals
o Supplier selection eg tenders, price lists, frameworks
o Supplier management – quality, performance monitoring, expediting, problem resolution
o Subcontracting
o Procurement planning
o Optimisation of goods inwards/inspection, stock control and planning
• Continuous improvement.
• Create environment for collaboration with other departments, such as programmes, engineering and quality.
• Negotiate prices and terms with key suppliers.
• Supplier relationship management.
• Planning and forecasting, market awareness.
• Identification and qualification of key or critical suppliers, second sources, strategic partners and monitoring of supplier risk including financial robustness.
• Support to bids and partnering strategies and product development to assess and provide cost effective supply chain solutions.
• Implement and monitor systems to provide traceability and parts tracking.
• Monitoring of long lead items.
• Obsolescence monitoring and reporting.
• Management of protectively marked and export controlled material.
• Management of cryptographic devices.
• Ownership of management processes for customer furnished items of data, equipment and tools.
• Strategy for applying environmental regulations such as REACH, COSHH, WEEE and safety including storage and handling.
• Social value, net zero and ethical trade practices (modern slavery, conflict minerals, embargoed material/countries)
• Rejection of items and disposals/repairs in line with security guidance and environmental requirements.
• Management of customer returns.
• Reporting and record keeping in line with contractual obligations and standards compliance.
• Shipping and logistics planning.
o Use of Incoterms.
o Customs procedures.
In order to be considered for this role you will have:
• Anticipated 8+ years relevant experience managing suppliers for complex electronic equipment.
• Good communications and teamwork.
• Self starter with drive and energy to solve problems and establish new systems.
• Organised and structured approach.
• Knowledge and experience of UK MOD or similar customer processes for supplier management and handling government furnished items.
• Implementing Supply Chain strategy, policy and processes.
• Comfortable working out new process flows – able to develop, review and continuously improve.
• Running competitions and other supplier selection approaches.
• Record keeping and reporting.
• Shipping and logistics planning.
• Environmental and product safety regulations.
• Social value initiatives and flowdowns.
• Knowledge of best practice supply chain management processes, procurement and warehousing solutions
• Manufacturing 4.0
• Experience with managing protectively marked materials.
• Knowledge of UK/US export/import regulations.
• KPI tracking.
• Supply Chain Risk management and resilience.
• Obsolescence management.
• ERP/MRP workflows.
• Procurement portals.
• JOSCAR.
Education
• CIPS qualification (or similar specialist qualification required)
• Degree preferred
• BTEC/HND Business/Operations/IT plus experience
• Evidence of additional training in Production Management, Procurement, Logistics, Inventory Management
