Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Exeter, EX5

Job type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:30 / 08:30am - 17:00

Salary: £36,500 - £40,000 per annum, DOE

Are you a hands on engineer with a passion for bringing new products to life? Our client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established design team and play a key role in developing innovative products from concept right through to production.

About the role:

You will be working closely with the Technical Engineering Manager and a collaborative design department to create high quality, production ready designs. From improving current product lines to driving new product development, you will be involved in every stage of the engineering process, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to exacting standards.

What you will be doing:

  • Transforming product ideas into detailed engineering drawings
  • Identifying the most efficient manufacturing methods for both in house and outsourced production
  • Completing DFMEA at the start of each project and ensuring actions are followed
  • Conducting tolerance analyses to support smooth manufacturing and assembly
  • Working with teams across Development, Production Engineering and Purchasing to ensure designs are optimized before handover
  • Supporting cost reduction, efficiency improvements and quality enhancements through design
  • Creating accurate Bill of Materials to support production costing
  • Keeping all project documentation and progress updates accurate and up to date

About you:

  • A degree in engineering or a strong mechanical engineering background
  • Experience taking products from protype stage to full production
  • Understanding of sheet metal design and manufacturing process
  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis and resolving design issues
  • DFMEA experience and confidence implementing corrective actions
  • Solid Edge experience
  • Ability to create 2D drawings using GD&T principles
  • Confident using Microsoft Office
  • Experience working within ISO9001 environment is an advantage
