Head of Technical Engineering
Location: York
Job type: Permanent
Hours: : 37.5 hours per week Monday- Friday. Flexible start/finish times of 7am – 9 am and 3pm-5pm finish. Hybrid working is considered after probation for up to 2 days per week.
Salary: £80,000 per annum + 10% bonus
Are you an experienced RF/Microwave Engineering Leader, we have an opportunity to take ownership of the technical direction for a highly specialized engineering function operating on a global stage.
As Head of Technical Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the organisations RF and Microwave engineering strategy. As part of the site leadership team, you will define architecture, champion engineering governance and lead a talented multi-discipline engineering group.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the technical engineering team, providing hands-on guidance to RF/MW design engineers and nurture strong design culture
- Set technical vision, architecture and long term technology roadmap
- Oversee modelling, simulation, prototyping and verification across all RF/MW products
- Drive concept development, feasibility assessments and technical input for customer proposals
- Manage engineering risks, budgets, schedules and technical reviews
- Maintain high-quality engineering processes, providing technical assurance and resolving design challenges
- Support customer-facing technical decisions, design reviews and progress updates
About you
- Degree (or equivalent) with deep expertise in RF & Microwave Engineering
- Proven leadership experience in engineering management, system engineering and technical governance
- Strategic mindset with experience delivering engineering improvement initiatives
- Extensive hands-on background in RF/MW filter design across multiple topologies
- Advanced capability in filter synthesis, modelling, simulation and analytical tools
- Confident contributor to high-level technical design reviews and architecture decisions
- Passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent

- Be a UK or NATO citizen with full right to work in the UK
- Be willing to work within the defence sector
- Be able to sign the Official Secrets Act and complete BPSS security clearance
